National Cheese Lover's Day is January 20th!
From fried curds to wine pairings, we've put together a list of all our favorite ways to indulge in the world's most celebrated food. Every culture has their own version, and here in Indy, you can get cheese from around the world or pick up a wheel right off the farm where the animals graze.
Zionsville / 9101 Moore Rd
The owners of TPC refer to their herd of milking cows as “the girls,” and their love of the animal comes through in every wheel, cup, and scoop of their dairy products. The grass-fed cows graze on the fresh stuff all summer and nutritious hay in the winter, making for a buttery, high-protein finished cheese product. Go straight to The Loft, TPC’s on-premise fine dining restaurant, for the best sampling of their cheese lineup.
Fall Creek Place / 2503 N Delaware St
Behind that iconic glass case is an ever-changing array of cheese from around the world, and they’ll let you put together the perfect cheese lover’s variety. No one beats the knowledgeability of the staff at Goose, so if you’re throwing a wine and cheese tasting party, just let them drive. They can put together a board of cheeses that fits your palate and a wine list to fit your budget.
Castleton / 5650 E 86th St A
If you went on a date between the ages of 15 to 22 in Indianapolis, you’ve been to The Melting Pot. It’s a national chain famous for serving pots of cheese and chocolate fondue, with a kind of throwback 70s nostalgia baked (melted?) into it. The Melting Pot is a fun place to take your friends for something a little silly to do in the middle of a grey week.
Broad Ripple / 6349 Guilford Ave
Greek cuisine was made famous by its jovially shattered plates and flaming cheese, and no one does saganaki like Canal Bistro. Your server will bring a sizzling plate of liquor-flamed kasseri cheese, which you can eat on bread or straight off the plate with a fork, twisting the browned cheese strings around your fork like pasta. It’s just across the bridge from all the bar action in Broad Ripple, making it an easy dinner stop before your night out.
Butler-Tarkington / 4155 Boulevard Pl
Hoagies & Hops serves the best authentic Philly cheesesteak sandwich, complete with "real" Cheez Whiz. If you’re intimidated by the heft of the sub, bring a friend and split one over a beer. Keep your eyes peeled for their expansion up to Butler-Tarkington in partnership with Chilly Water Brewing.
Fountain Square / 1127 Prospect St
Few places do mac so well you’d take it over a side of fries any day - Kuma’s is one of them. They’ve got their cheesy sauce just right, and you can mix in a huge variety of toppings from chicken to fresh garlic to jalapeños. Kuma’s also heard the cry of the people and started offering a smaller size, so you can get your cheesy cravings satisfied without having to be rolled out of the restaurant.
Nora / 1435 E 86th St
Eddie Sahm is trying to kill us all, one plate at a time. There’s no greater proof of this crime than the Big Lug Poutine. You can go the classic route with fries, poutine gravy, cheese curds, and scallions OR you can add chopped steak onto it to switch it up.
Mile Square / 201 S Meridian St
If you're from Indy you know one thing is always done perfectly and that's Kilroy's breadsticks. A true Indiana staple with every bite bringing one of those commercial-worthy cheese pulls. Kilroy's menu is full of cheesy goodness including their cheese curds, load cajun chips, and their pizza that no one talks about.
