1. 1 in every 1,100 people in the United States will be at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway (300,000-350,000 people in attendance). The attendance makes it the world's largest single-day sporting event.


2. Graham Hill won the Indy 500 in 1966 as a rookie. He’s also the only driver to complete the “Triple Crown of Motorsport”: Indy 500, Monaco Grand Prix, and 24 Hours of Le Mans.


3. There are 4 holes of the Brickyard Crossing Golf Course inside the track.


4. The IMS can hold Vatican City, Taj Mahal, Churchill Downs, Yankee Stadium, The White House, Liberty Island, Roman Colosseum, ANNNNND Rose Bowl Stadium.



5. The longest Indy 500 was 8 hours and 22 minutes due to rain delays. 


6. If all the hot dogs and bratwurst sold on race day were placed end-to-end, they would circle the oval more than three times.


7. The track is nicknamed The Brickyard because the IMS was originally paved with 3.2 million bricks in 1909. A one-yard strip of bricks still remains at the start/finish line today.


8. A.J. Foyt is the most experienced driver in the field, with 35 previous Indianapolis 500 starts.


9. The winner drinking milk tradition was established in 1936. It started when winner Louis Meyer asked for buttermilk after the race.


10. If an Indy Car engine were installed in the average riding lawn mower, it could cut a half-acre lawn in about 5.6 seconds
